Photography books find new home

Many of you know that the first floor of the library has reopened–if not, stop by the library and take a look, or check out the photos on our Milligan College Library Facebook page.

In addition to our DVD and VHS collections, the new space now boasts one more circulating collection than it did last week.  We’ve moved our photography lending books (in fact, the entire TR section!) into tall, wide wooden double shelves between the two entrances.  These shelves allow us to display every book spine-out, which makes for much easier browsing and nicer presentation.  We hope you appreciate the difference!

Come on in and take a look, and as always, let us know if you have any questions.

Library first floor reopens!

The first floor of the Milligan College Library is now fully open and ready for use!

The plastic wall separating the lobby from the rest of the floor has come down, and you won’t believe how much has changed in the past three weeks!  In addition to the new carpet and paint in the reference area, we’ve opened up the former library office area as open space, complete with tables and chairs, for you, our library users.  Our massive DVD collection has moved onto shelves in the newly-opened area, and we’ve reconfigured the old DVD room as a study room, complete with whiteboard (coming soon).  We’ve also got 26 brand-new computers throughout the building, including five IBM ThinkPad laptops and 13 Lenovo netbooks.  They’re configured for wireless and ready for checkout.

If you won’t be back to campus until August, you can check out all our pictures of the remodeling process on our new Milligan College Library Facebook page—be sure to like our page so you don’t miss a thing.

Please note, however, that the library will be closed Friday, August 6th, due to Faculty/Staff workday.  Remember, www.milligan.edu/libary is always open: you can access online databases, request interlibrary loans, search the online catalog, read an e-book, and much more!

We hope to see you soon!

Million Pennies Campaign raises $175.50 in July 2010!

The Milligan College Library is proud to announce that you, our loyal library users, have contributed $175.50 in cash and change to our Million Pennies Campaign in July 2010–our most successful month thus far!  We have now raised $436.50 since the start of the campaign in April.

The Library staff would like to extend a hearty thank you to our May 2010 contributors: Beth Anderson, Dennis Helsabeck Jr., and Dr. Jack Knowles. Thank you, faculty, for your very generous gifts!

Many of you have see the pictures of the Summer 2010 library remodeling on the Milligan College Library Facebook page.  What you may not know is that these remodeling efforts are a very small part of the full library renovation. So we still need your help in raising funds for the full renovation!  Bring your loose change and help us get closer to our goal of $10,000. Remember, when we raise the money, we’ll allow you, the contributors, to name a study room whatever you like.  Every penny helps!

Thanks, and we look forward to seeing you this summer.  Enjoy the last few weeks of your summer break, and remember http://milligan.edu/library is always open! See you soon!
