Million Pennies Campaign raises $93.54 in December 2011!

Happy New Year! Milligan College Library is proud to announce that you, our loyal library users, contributed $93.54 in cash and change to our Million Pennies Campaign in December 2011. We have now raised $5,572.16 since the start of the campaign in April 2010, having crossed the halfway point last month!

The Library staff would like to extend a hearty thank you to our December donors: David Beeson, Tracy Gedeon, Gabriel Jimenez, Diane Junker, Ron Peterson, Emma Rees, Katherine Smith, and Brennan Tracy. Remember, if you’d like us to thank you by name, please write your name down on the slips of paper in the tray next to the donation box, and we’ll let everyone know about your generosity.

Tracy Gedeon, a staff member at Dawn of Hope, is the winner of our monthly drawing. She will receive the hardcover Saving CeCe Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman. Congratulations! Congratulations!

The next prize is the 2010 hardcover Get Me Out: A History of Childbirth from the Garden of Eden to the Sperm Bank by Randi Hutter Epstein. Donate to the campaign, write your name on a slip of paper, and place it in the box at the Circulation Desk. On February 1st, we’ll draw a winner from the names in the box!

We still need your help in raising funds to help us reach our goal of a totally renovated library.Bring your loose change and help us get closer to $10,000. Remember, when we raise the money, we’ll allow you, the contributors, to name a study room whatever you like. Every penny helps! If you’re not familiar with the Campaign, check out original post on the library blog. And remember you can follow us on Facebook and Twitter as well. Thank you!

Past the halfway point: Million Pennies Campaign raises $818.70 in November 2011!

Milligan College Library is proud to announce that you, our loyal library users, contributed $818.70 in cash and change to our Million Pennies Campaign in November 2011. We have now raised $5,478.62 since the start of the campaign in April 2010, which means we’ve exceed 50% of our goal!

The Library staff would like to extend a hearty thank you to our November donors: Paulette Anderson, Jeremy Behne, Ruth Cook, Bob Cox, Sterling Herron, Taft Hill, Tommy Parker, Ethan Quisenberry, Adam Tomlinson and Lauren Tomlinson. Remember, if you’d like us to thank you by name, please write your name down on the slips of paper in the tray next to the donation box, and we’ll let everyone know about your generosity.

Paulette Anderson, Office Manager for Graduate and Professional Studies, is the winner of our monthly drawing. She will receive the paperback The Omnivore’s Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals by Michael Pollan. Congratulations, Paulette!

The next prize is the 2010 hardcover Saving CeCe Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman. Donate to the campaign, write your name on a slip of paper, and place it in the box at the Circulation Desk. On January 2nd, we’ll draw a winner from the names in the box!

We still need your help in raising funds to help us reach our goal of a totally renovated library.* Bring your loose change and help us get closer to $10,000. Remember, when we raise the money, we’ll allow you, the contributors, to name a study room whatever you like. Every penny helps! If you’re not familiar with the Campaign, check out original post on the library blog. And remember you can follow us on Facebook and Twitter as well. Thank you!

* Editor’s Note: The $10,000 we are seeking to raise through the Million Pennies Campaign is, of course, not nearly sufficient to fund the Library renovation project. That project will cost millions of dollars. This Campaign is intended to raise awareness of the larger renovation project while honoring the power of “small gifts” contributed each day by our users (students, faculty, and other members of the Milligan College learning community) applied to an attainable goal–the naming of a library study room. To this I also want to add my hearty Thank You!

In spite of rain, 4th Annual Library Book Sale a success! (plus Million Pennies Campaign update)

The P.H. Welshimer Memorial Library’s 4th Annual Homecoming Book Sale, held October 27-29th in the library parking lot, was a rousing success, despite the rainy weather on the final two days. Altogether, the sale raised over $1,300–not bad, considering we were giving away books for free from Friday morning until the sale’s conclusion on Saturday afternoon due to the wet weather!

The books and media collected for the sale came from duplicates and other titles weeded from the Library collection, titles donated by individuals that did not fit library collection guidelines, and some items from last year’s sale. Milligan College yearbooks that had been stored in the library over the decades were again offered for sale, and, as in years past, were quite a hot item.

Library staff would like to thank members of the Milligan community and surrounding areas for visiting our book sale and making the event a success. Thanks also to our library student-workers who helped with organizing, setup, and tending to the cash box. We’d also like to thank Kori Hunter, who won our Library Book Sale Art Contest, and whose photograph was the image used in our promotional posters and postcards. We’ve posted a photo album from this year’s sale on our Facebook page. Check it out, and be sure to “Like” our page while you’re there!

As with last year’s sale, Library staff decided to donate all proceeds to the our Million Pennies Campaign, which will help fund a major library renovation once the funds are raised. We collected a further $58.14 for the Million Pennies Campaign via the donation box on the library’s circulation desk, which brings the total October Million Pennies contribution to $1,364.14.

We have now raised $4,659.92 since the start of the campaign in April 2010, which means we’ve reached nearly 1/2 of our goal! The Library staff would like to extend a hearty thank you to the October donors who included their names in our deposit box: Bert Allen, Abby Banks, Jeremy Behne, Tyler Brackins, Clint Holloway, Stephen Joiner, Tommy Parker, Beverly Schmalzried, Katie Smith, Adam Tomlinson, and Luis Treviño. Remember, if you’d like us to thank you by name, please write your name down on the slips of paper in the tray next to the donation box, and we’ll let everyone know about your generosity!

Adam Tomlinson is the winner of our monthly drawing. He will receive the hardcover America By Heart: Reflections on Family, Faith, and Flag by Sarah Palin. The next prize is the 2007 paperback The Omnivore’s Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals by Michael Pollan. Donate to the campaign, write your name on a slip of paper, and place it in the box at the Circulation Desk. On December 1st, we’ll draw a winner from the names in the box!

We still need your help in raising funds to help us reach our goal of a totally renovated library. Bring your loose change and help us get closer to $10,000. Remember, when we raise the money, we’ll allow you, the contributors, to name a study room whatever you like. Every penny helps! If you’re not familiar with the Campaign, check out original post on the library blog. And remember you can follow us on Facebook and Twitter as well. Thank you!
